Galaxy Scientific Announces Availability of New Power Pack for QuasIR Series

Introducing the Power Pack for QuasIR series!
This lightweight power pack is selected to work with Galaxy Scientific’s QuasIR line of FT-NIR spectrometers. It is mainly used in field applications where local mains power is not available and offers a lifetime of 5 to 7 hours depending on the spectrometer’s configuration.
Detecting Counterfeit Drugs with FT-NIR
Galaxy Scientific’s App Note: Detecting Counterfeit Drugs Using FT-NIR
AZo Materials has published the latest application note from Galaxy Scientific
A suitable technology is needed to quickly, easily, and inexpensively screen medical drugs to detect fake products and poor quality ingredients. Traditional wet chemical or chromatographic methods cannot be used as fast screening tools as they are time-consuming and require expertise in sample preparation and handling. However, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is rapid, non-destructive, and can be used to differentiate and quantify organic compounds. With no complex sample preparation, NIR spectroscopy can be extremely inexpensive per sample. NIR spectroscopy can also differentiate between generic formulations that are sold as brand name drugs. The most impressive example of using NIR spectroscopy as a counterfeit drug screening tool comes from the People’s Republic of China. Researchers at China’s National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) have equipped 200 vans with FT-NIR spectrometers turning them into mobile labs for counterfeit drug testing.

The Benefits of FT-NIR Spectroscopy for Rice Analysis
Galaxy Scientific’s Latest Article on AZO Materials website
FT-NIR spectroscopy to Analyse Rice… Since the 1950s, scientists have been searching for parameters that can define the cooking quality and processing characteristics of rice, as well as its chemical and physical testing methods. For example, amylose content and alkali diffusion values are widely used worldwide in rice breeding. Amylose content is related to water absorption, swelling, viscosity, and glossiness of rice. The alkali diffusion value is related to the gelatinization temperature of milled rice starch granules. The viscosity of rice paste during heating and cooling is often measured as an indicator of the milling properties of rice flour. Although the content of protein is not often used in rice breeding, it is nevertheless an important factor because it directly affects cooking time, texture, and nutritional value. The fat content is also an important nutrient of rice; it has a significant influence on the flavor, appearance, and quality. Additionally, the fat content in rice decreases with the extent of processing.

Edible Oils Analysis ǀ New AZO Item
The Benefits of Edible Oils Analysis Using FT-NIR Instrumentation
AZO Materials Publishes Latest Article about Galaxy Scientific’s Near Infrared Analyzers

Fats and oils are recognized as essential nutrients in human diets and are presented in varying amounts in many foods. They not only provide the human body with a concentrated source of energy but also supply essential fatty acids that are precursors for important hormones. The quality of edible fats and oils are assessed through parameters such as iodine value (IV), trans content, peroxide value (PV), anisidine value (AV), saponification number (SN), free fatty acids (FFA), and solid fat content (SFC). The traditional chemical and chromatographic methods used to analyze edible fats and oils are labor-intensive, require the use of solvents and reagents, and are extremely time-consuming.
FT-NIR spectroscopic analysis of fats and oils is fast, requires no sample preparation, and can analyze multiple parameters with a single measurement. An infrared spectrum of an oil contains a wealth of information that can be used to determine important factors.

Instrument to Instrument Model Transfer from FT-NIR to FT-NIR
Introduction
Until recently, commercial near-infrared spectrometers (NIR) have been either high-performance, with high resolution and broad spectral range for laboratory use, or portable and with low performance. Galaxy Scientific offers a new, high-performance, portable NIR solution with both the analytical performance and portability required for today’s applications. The QuasIR™ series analyzer is a Fourier-transform near-infrared spectrometer (FT-NIR ) that weighs less than 8.5 kg, occupies 45x24x14 cm3, and is battery operated. It is portable and, at the same time, delivers high performance. In this study, we examine the spectra collected on a high-performance benchtop FT-NIR instrument with spectra collected on our portable FT-NIR instrument to validate spectra compatibility and qualitative/quantitative model transferability and predict application performance.

QuasIR™ Series FT-NIR is Now Compatible with Symbion Software
Symbion DX™ and RX™ Manages Measurement Process During Online Analysis
Galaxy Scientific is pleased to announce that the QuasIR™ Series of Portable FT-NIR Instruments is now compatible with Symbion software. The Symbion DX™ and RX™ Process Analytical Software Suite manages the measurement process during online analysis. Some of the key features of this software include:
- Sample system design and control
- Simultaneous control of multiple analyzers
- Extraction of process variable information from the raw data
- Real-time trending of any number of streams
- System diagnostics and alarming
- Choice of file-based or database storage

Symbion DX™ is easy-to-use and offers extensive capabilities for calibration, validation, and documentation. Symbion RX™ provides the added security precautions needed to ensure compliance in highly regulated environments. Both software suites work in Windows (XP and 10).

Using FT-NIR as a Real Time QC Tool for Polymer Manufacture
Galaxy Scientific is pleased to have another article featuring their FT-NIR instrumentation on AZoM, the chief worldwide news service for engineering and design, and the leading online publication for Materials Science.

The Article
The use of near infrared spectrometers (FT-NIR) is common in the polymer industry in process and quality control operations. This article focuses on three FT-NIR applications: 1) at line polyether polyols’ hydroxyl value analysis; 2) real time isocyanate number monitoring during a polyurethane reaction; and 3) off-line quality control of percentage styrene in styrene copolymers.
