The use of near infrared spectrometers (FT-NIR) is common in the polymer industry in process and quality control operations. This article focuses on three FT-NIR applications: 1) at line polyether polyols’ hydroxyl value analysis; 2) real time isocyanate number monitoring during a polyurethane reaction; and 3) off-line quality control of percentage styrene in styrene copolymers.
